As an interviewer, I am asking this question not to get the full picture of the project, but simply to understand enough to ask you follow-up questions.
That's the real point of this question: to see whether you can explain the "why did you do x instead of y?". It's in those follow-up questions that you get to show that you really understood the full project. Also, explaining it up-front only shows that you've been able to memorize a script, not that you really understood the project.
Be careful with phone interviews, as you will not be able to read their body language. you should pause at spots and ask something like "would you like to hear more detail on that, or does that give you the basics of what you wanted to know?"
Keep it short and sweet by trying to stick to the following points:
Planning implementation and achieving results
Describe the project, activity or event which you have worked on and taken through to a conclusion. Include your objective, what you did, any changes you made or assisted in implementing plans and state how you measured your success.
Influencing, communication and teamwork
Describe how you have achieved a goal through influencing the actions and opinions of others (perhaps in a team context). What were the circumstances? What did you do to make a difference? How do you know the result was satisfactory?
Analysis, problem solving and creative thinking
Describe a difficult problem that you have solved during this project. State how you decided which the critical issues were. Say what you did and what your solution was. What other approaches could you have taken?
Simulation and Sensorless FOC of BLDC Motor                       4/2015-Present
●Simulated and verified a BLDC Motor speed PI control model in MATLAB/Simulink.
●Identified the resistance and inductance of hobby BLDC motor using TI Instaspin.
●Experimented current loop control and speed loop control on sensorless BLDC motor.

Planning implementation and achieving results
Final project of the Motor Drive course.
Derive the electromagnetic torque equation of the BLDC motor,modeled the BLDC motor,built inverter block,PI control block,finally tuned the PI coefficient and got a good control performance.
Later on,tried to do more physical experiment of BLDC
In August,started to experiment BLDC Field Oriented control using TI’s c2000 series chip.TI has a full tutorial of the experiment,which is really a good resource to learn BLDC control.
Followed the tutorial,Identified the resistance and inductance of the motor,performed current loop control and speed loop control.
Influencing, communication and teamwork
This is my personal project.
Analysis, problem solving and creative thinking
Problem-1:Never used Simulink before,don’t know how to model a BLDC motor
Solved:started from scratch,watched some tutorial article and videos about using simulink,referenced dozens of paper about BLDC simulation because most papers only showed a small portion of the whole model.
Problem-2:Almost burnt my motor
Solved:mention the thesis paper,the author also had this problem,so I prepared for it,turned out it’s because the demo software didn’t identify the parameter correctly.followed the tutorial,manually ran each lab program and identified the parameter,succeeded.

proj的目标, 框架, 团队分工, 用到的各项技术, 遇到的困难极其解决方案, 结果, 优化方法等, 串成一个跌宕起伏一波三折的小故事来讲, 还真有的面试官听得津津有味...
