Jim Ostrowski at UT-Knoxville passed along this request for us to identify possible PhD students in the Industrial and Systems Engineering program. He thinks someone who's industrious and good with applied stats would be good fit for the work being done by this colleague of his. Please forward to current or recent MS stat students you think might have an interest.
We have a faculty member, Anahita Khojandi (http://ise.utk.edu/peopletwo/dr-anahita-khojandi/), who is interested in medical decision-making, stochastic processes, healthcare analytics, etc. She needs a competent, hard-working, stat student to work with. She will be a great advisor and will fully support any student she has (lots of conference travel, time, and energy). The department is moving more in the healthcare analytics area and is starting to enter into agreements with UT Medical Center to help match-make UT researchers and research oriented medical doctors (including beginning to develop a database of hospital data to be used for research). There are pretty exciting opportunities here for someone interested in that kind of work. Any start date (January, Summer, or Fall) would be fine.
