Job Opening 1
The Bing Local team mines the web in a number of markets to extract local entity data from business sites. This data is used to help power our local search product. The data mined in this way provides core attributes including the name, address and phone of local businesses. Once we have this core data, we can mine further information from the sites such as the hours of operation. This approach has led to high quality data being available for our users, helping to drive a number of key data quality metrics for the search product.
In building the crawling, extraction and reasoning components to deliver this data, the team has developed some core principles that we believe are critical to what we think of as Agile Web Mining:
1 - optimize for developer productivity: when working with large volumes of data we still want to iterate quickly on the development and improvement of our platform components as well as the individual extractors and other application elements.
2 - optimize for data productivity: being able to review, diagnose and improve data quickly is critical if we want to maintain high quality production data and so we need interactive tools to play with our data product.
3 - build agile algorithms: when dealing with the web, being able to reduce the latency in accessing the data can be important for mining algorithms that are essentially behaving like the users for whom the web sites were created.

As we move ahead with our plan to build our next generation system, we are looking for new team members to help us accelerate and grow the impact of our approaches to mining entities from the web. We plan to deploy this system against not just local data but many other domains.

We are looking for people who are interested in mining unstructured and semi-structured data from the web; building systems and services in the cloud and contributing to the role of knowledge in Bing and Microsoft at large.

Local Search has emerged as one of the hottest areas with a rapid growth and has become critical for success for any organization. At Microsoft, we want to lead the next generation innovations in this space and deliver an exciting array of experiences to our millions of users across the devices and technology stacks. We have an exciting opportunity for you to take on the big challenges in Local Search and exploit some bleeding edge technologies in machine learning, big data and distributed computing.
As a member of our team, you would have opportunity to work on several algorithm design problems, sharpen your data analysis skills and write code that runs in distributed environment spanning hundreds of machines. We take pride in our systems that utilizes state of the art algorithms and machine learning techniques to solve complex computational problems. We are an agile team fully embracing Scrum methodologies and we strive to ship our code on weekly basis. We believe in light weight processes that enables everyone to try out new ideas, design solutions and ship their work fast to meaningfully impacts our user experience.
We are currently looking for a strong developer with solid foundation in Computer Science, passion for designing algorithms, and impressive coding chops. We highly value a data-driven approach, an intuitive understanding of the mathematics and statistics behind algorithms, and data analysis skills that uncover patterns and insights. If you are a rapid learner of new technologies and love to keep up with latest developments from academia and Microsoft Research, this role is for you. We are one of the few rare places on the planet where you will have at your disposal some of the most valuable, expansive, and exclusive data to work with and enable great new features and capabilities for our users.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Excellent coding chops in C# or C++ or Python or Java equivalent languages
- Deep and intuitive understanding of computer science fundamentals
- Experience with machine learning techniques and methodologies is highly desirable
- Strong skill set with data analysis, data mining, probability and statistics is a big plus
- Experience with distributed computing environments such as Azure, map/reduce or Cosmos is desirable but not required
- Past track record of taking self-initiatives, coming up with algorithmic solutions and shipping it to production would be extremely helpful
- Ability to work in agile environment with rapid ship cycles to production
- 4+ years of experience

感觉地里里的朋友的来信, 截止现在我已经收到了近10封简历. 简单谈一下我的感想
1) 发现很多朋友的简历不是很符合工作要求, 即便HR看到这样的申请也会被直接过滤掉的. .鐣欏璁哄潧-涓浜-涓夊垎鍦
2) 这两份工作并不是Microsoft,Google,Facebook那样的general hire, 把最好的自己写到简历里面就完事的. 对于有特定需求的工作,需要针对性的写, 千万别用one-fits-all的简历
3) 请简历上highlight 这些experience :  machine learning/ statistics, information retrieval, big data skills, nature language processing
4) 刚跟学姐联系过了,她也不希望HR的邮箱被blown up. 所以我会先做一轮screen, 如果你没收到我的邮件,不是说明你不够优秀,而且你的简历不太适合这2份工作
5) 这2份工作不一定非要new hire, 目前在职工作的,背景很match的是很受欢迎的. more info on 1point3acres.com
