[申请] 17Fall 材料本科转CS 各大学校CS项目情况汇总

985&211材料,强转CS,反正自己也要做功课,不如和大家一起分享吧。重点分享个各个学校和转专业相关的信息,在申请前都会更新。UPENN MCIT USC  NEU不要求任何背景的我就不说了,反正大家都会申的。格式如下,标红的为结论,黑色部分为邮件或官网的具体内容。全部都是CS,CE\EE\IS都不包括。又纯又直的CS

Gatech 要会编程、C、JAVA算法
The following is what we recommend for applicants without a CS undergraduate background:

1. Must know how to program
2. C (proficient)
3. Java
4. Algorithms class

The student should have an undergraduate level of proficiency in core computer science areas including: operating systems, design and analysis of algorithms, formal languages and automata theory, networking and communications, theory/algorithms, and computer architecture.

You can gain this knowledge through undergrad classes, MOOC or learn it through work experience.

If any remedial coursework is needed, it will be accessed and discussed with you during orientation.

与其逛遍论坛,找各种小道消息和个例,不如好好研究一下各家官方的说法。这是开这个帖子的初衷。虽然有人没背景也能拿到好Offer,但是毕竟是个例,样本数量不够。虽然有些学校号称友好,但是每年的情况不一样,而且一爆出来友好就会被申爆,人家当然不会继续友好了。。。我觉得最靠谱的还是官网,人家官方都跟你说了,没背景去补完课再来,就没必要厚着脸皮去申了。如果官方说得稍微委婉一些,我们会综合考虑,没有背景,能力强也可以,那还能试一试。如果官方再友好一些,说没有背景来我们这人,我们给你补,你给钱就好,不要犹豫赶紧申。至于直接开给转专业的,更不用问。 当然也会有官网上说得很强硬,实际爆冷门的情况,可是这种消息概率有多大?可信度有多高?考虑一下投资回报比吧。总之,我觉得大部分小道消息都没有官网来得靠谱。。。

Cornell MS不要想了,全奖每年招10个人,不可能
MENG 可能性也不大

bachelor's degree (BA / BS / BE) in computer science or a related technical field (e.g., electrical and computer engineering,  information science, operations research) typically suffices. Applicants who have majored in other fields are absolutely encouraged to apply provided they have demonstrated knowledge of the following subjects:

Object-Oriented Programming and Data Structures (e.g., CS 2110) Intermediate programming in a high-level language and introduction to computer science. Topics include program structure and organization, object-oriented programming (classes, objects, types, sub-typing), graphical user interfaces, algorithm analysis (asymptotic complexity, big “O” notation), recursion, data structures (lists, trees, stacks, queues, heaps, search trees, hash tables, graphs), simple graph algorithms. Java is the principal programming language.
Data Structures and Functional Programming (e.g., CS 3110) Advanced programming course that emphasizes functional programming techniques and data structures. Programming topics include recursive and higher-order procedures, models of programming language evaluation and compilation, type systems, and polymorphism. Data structures and algorithms covered include graph algorithms, balanced trees, memory heaps, and garbage collection. Also covers techniques for analyzing program performance and correctness. NOTE: Although knowledge of functional programming is not essential, advanced knowledge of data structures is.
Computer System Organization and Programming (e.g., CS 3410) An introduction to the design of embedded systems, with an emphasis on understanding the interaction between hardware, software, and the physical world. Topics covered include assembly language programming, interrupts, I/O, concurrency management, scheduling, resource management, and real-time constraints.
Discrete Structures (e.g., CS 2800) Covers the mathematics that underlies most of computer science. Topics include mathematical induction; logical proof; propositional and predicate calculus; combinatorics and discrete mathematics; some basic elements of basic probability theory; basic number theory; sets, functions, and relations; graphs; and finite-state machines. These topics are discussed in the context of applications to many areas of computer science, such as the RSA cryptosystem and web searching.
Basic Calculus and Linear Algebra  Functions and graphs, limits and continuity, differentiation and integration, volume and arc length, infinite sequences and power series, parametric equations, partial derivatives, double and triple integrals, line and surface integrals, vector fields, gradients and Jacobians, matrices, determinants, vector spaces, linear systems, least squares, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, orthogonality and inner product spaces.
The courses listed above will best prepare you for the courses required to meet the CS M.Eng degree requirements. It is essential that the material covered in these courses be familiar to you in order for you to be successful. We suggest that when taking the equivalent of the Cornell CS courses listed as pre-requisites, you insure the courses you take cover the same material and the school where you take them is of comparable to Cornell.

To be considered for admission to any of our graduate programs, students usually have a bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline like electrical engineering. Occasionally applicants with degrees in fields such as mathematics or physics are considered for admission to the program, especially if they have some computer science background, such as a CS minor. In special circumstances, alternative undergraduate preparation will be considered (e.g., a biology major may be appropriate for a student interested in the application of information and computer science to biological problems, such as bioinformatics).

Below are some general guidelines that can be gleaned from our undergraduate program. Before applying to our program, you should definitely have mastered the equivalent of the following courses:

Basic programming: CSE 8A-B or 11; CSE 12 and preferably CSE 30
Discrete math: CSE 20 and probably CSE 21
Data structures and algorithms: CSE 100 and preferably 101
Background in some or all of the following is also recommended:

Hardware and architecture: 140 and 141, preferably with labs
Systems and Software: CSE 120, 130, 131A-B
Theory: CSE 105
Descriptions of these classes and their prerequisites can be found in CSE Undergraduate Course Descriptions. Normally, these courses could be taken through the UCSD Concurrent Enrollment Program, which permits enrollment in CSE courses to non-matriculated students (with permission of the instructor).

If you do not have a traditional computer science background it is strongly suggested that you meet the background requirements outlined on our website:  {没有发链接的权限。。。} to be considered for the program.

Without meeting these requirements your application may not be considered competitive. If you have fulfilled background requirements be sure to include this coursework in your submitted transcripts and make note of your efforts in your Statement of Purpose.

TAMU 要背景,不能发链接好痛苦。。。但是说得有些委婉,可以抽抽彩票,要奖的话1.1之前申请,deadline 3.1

Students are encouraged to discuss their background with the Graduate Advisor if they have questions.

NCSU 非常干脆地拒绝了,我喜欢。。。。原文如下

Would you consider candidates with little background in computer science?
No, we would not.

UVA 要背景,但没把话说死。可以试试,请参考下面标红的一段要奖12月15号,没奖4月1号Applications are evaluated based on the following factors:

Background in Computer Science (including project work)
Grade Point Average (GPA)
Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
Letters of reference
Personal statement
TOEFL scores
Applications are evaluated in their entirety. A weakness in one factor might be mitigated by strength in another.

Background in Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science does not require that applicants hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. However, applicants are expected to have a strong background in Computer Science.

A suitable background would include courses in the following core areas:

Data Structures
Discrete Mathematics
Assembly Language and Computer Organization
Programming in a procedural language such as C, C#, C++, or Java.
Applicants are also expected to have taken several (but not necessarily all) courses in specialized areas:

Operating Systems
Programming Languages
Artificial Intelligence
Computer Networks
Automata and Formal Languages
Software Engineering
A year of college-level Calculus is also required. In general, experience gained working is not considered equivalent to successful completion of the courses listed above.

NEU Align 虽然大家都知道,我还是放一下,这个学校是Rolling的,到5月1号,录满为止
NEUrolling 5月1号截止
ALIGN MSCS degree candidates are required to possess:
  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Minimum TOEFL score of 100 for Seattle and Boston locations (international students only)

To apply for admission to the ALIGN MSCS program, you must submit an online application that includes:
  • PDF or scanned copies of unofficial undergraduate/graduate transcripts (you can submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended at the time of admission)
  • Statement of purpose, career goals, and expected outcomes and benefits from the program
  • Recent professional resume listing detailed position responsibilities
  • Three confidential letters of recommendation
  • PDF or scanned copies of unofficial TOEFL examination scores from international students only (you will need to submit official scores at the time of admission)
The ALIGN MSCS program admits students on a rolling basis up until the domestic and international applicant deadlines.
For fall semester admission, the domestic student application is due August 15. International student deadline is May 1.

For fall semester admission, your application is due August 15.
For spring semester admission, your application is due December 15.
International students must apply one month earlier. Students are admitted on a rolling basis.

NEU 虽然大家都知道,我还是放一下,Rolling一直到5月1号,排名和录取情况看上面,录取条件看下面

What are the admission requirements?
You should have an undergraduate degree in computer science or a related discipline. If your undergraduate degree is in a different field, you are required to have completed at least four computer science courses covering foundations of the field and basic programming, and two mathematics courses. For example, Intro to Computer Science (COMS W1004 or COMS W1007), Advanced Programming (COMS W3157), Data Structures and Algorithms (COMS W3134 or W3137), which is a prerequisite for most of our graduate-level courses, or/and Discrete Math (COMS W3203).

Do you accept students from other disciplines?
Entering students are expected to have completed a program of study equivalent to that required by the B.S. in computer science. Applicants from other disciplines are required to have coursework (or equivalent experience) in intermediate programming (C++ and Java), data structures, automata theory, computer systems fundamentals and algorithms. We do not offer remedial coursework at the graduate level.

My undergraduate degree is not in CS. Will I find programming courses too difficult?
If you've studied no programming at all, you are likely to find any course with programming difficult. Avoid programming intensive courses until you've finished your deficiency courses. On the other hand, some theory courses require little programming. You might manage to take these at the same time as your deficiency courses.

Initial evaluations of each application are performed by faculty members whose research interests fall in the area of specialization specified by the applicant. A typical applicant is expected to have a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline from a recognized institution. Highly qualified candidates with other academic backgrounds may also be considered.

The specific undergraduate preparation required for graduate study depends on the program and the area of specialization. An applicant who has insufficient undergraduate preparation in any particular area but is well-qualified in every other respect may be required to take certain undergraduate courses as soon as possible after enrolling at Northwestern. That student would be informed of such a requirement at the time of admission.
