It’s an information society in which youare only too accustomed to information that you can’t imagine it’s absence, backin the not-so-remote old days. For the past few years, I experience severalroles, from a full-time student to a system
admin associate engineer and from anassociate engineer to another full-time student, and then became a programmerand data analyst. Going through those professional or academic experience, manythings around me is changed. But only constant thing is interaction withcomputer science.
As early as 2010, I joined Professor Gou’s study, the “China’s High-speed Train Key Technology Research – Study onSocial Economic Impact Evaluation and Analysis for the ExpressRailway”, which was a national-level project that probed the theoreticaldeterminants in constructing express railways, and how and to what extent theconstruction might influence our social economic development. There was a lotof new stuff for us to learn. The Hibernate-Spring-Struts for instance, was apopular development structure not common to students in domestic schools. Evenmaking the picture worse, not majoring in Software Engineering nor ComputerScience, I could boast of no previous contact with the structure at all. But ofcourse this lack of knowledge was not an easy excuse; on the contrary, itmotivated me to actively catch up with others: by a way of half doing halflearning, I gradually progressed to establish and manage a model library forinteractive models in the system, built models (data screening standards, datastandardization, data graphical) as well as made system Webpage designs,contributing to more than 5,000 lines of code compiling. The more I wrote and readcodes, the easier I felt it to master a new structure or to express my mind indifferent programming languages, just like I once fitted the object-orientedidea into the structural Visual Basic program technique. Thanks to everyone, wesuccessfully established a model revealing relations of the express railway andsocial economic development, simulating the competition between the high-speedtrains and other means of public transport. My work was recognized by ProfessorGou and the school. And I was recommended to join other projects in “Research onKey Technologies of Web Resources Rapid Transit” and “Mobile Phone SNS Based onWi-Fi Technology”. It's not only proving my ability but telling me one’sefforts will pay off. And, since then, I became fascinated with the art of programmingand algorithm, which trigger me to learn more knowledge about computer science.I hope to go further on this way.
Apart from rich research experience, after received my bachelordegree, I work for QQQ Group as a System Admin Associate Engineer. My SystemAdmin Associate Engineer position at Lenovo Group solidified my ability indatabase design, analysis and management. I took charge of routine managementof Data Mart system (a DB2 database) in performance improvement, databasecreation and management, and troubleshooting for system crashes, slow-down anddata recoveries. My most significant accomplishment in this position involved solvingan emergency database crush down to enable the company to avoid huge loss from milliontransaction data losing. In doing so, I had to investigate problem in operationsystem level and database level and provide feasible solution in fixing problemand recovering data, which are almost mission impossible for new graduate.
Currently, as an IT Data Analyst and Programmer at QQQ Inc,I developed the web-based report application utilizing skills in ASP.NET, C#,SQL Server, JQuery, and HTML. Also, I assisted in provide insight and analysisbased on client’s requirement using VB, STATA and SQL Server 2008 to processinternal real estate market data and external data from U.S. Bureau of LaborStatistic. All those hands-on work not only reflected a true image into my purelyacademic and research life, but also helped clear what I truly want. Although Iworked as application developer, I do not want to limit myself to be a personwho can write code. Through a focused program of study, my goal is to step intoreally world of computer science and become a software engineer who has a deepfoundation in computer science and the skills.
The key to becoming successful software engineer and further Tech Expertis to own a deep foundation in computer science and touch cutting edgetechnology. The Graduate Program of Computer Science in QQQ University canoffer all those things to me. I checked official website of graduate ComputerScience program, finding to my great excitement almost everything: academiccredits in core courses and free electives out of which I may arrange acombination of my own fields of interests; intellectual challenges, stimulatingresearch opportunities that are bound to move things to the next level for me;a dynamic learning atmosphere containing students with diverse interests andtalents who collaborate and communicate to create the future…I want to be partof this picture.
Hopefully within the next two years, I will be able to complete amaster’s degree and some of my theses may be up to the ISTP or EI retrieval criteria.After graduation, I would like to start my career with a technical company,like Microsoft or Google. I will spend five years from then on getting insightsof the technical industry, increasing my professional competence, leading ateam as a senior software engineer or team lead. In the long term, it’s a smartmove for me to go back China and seek partnership with one of the Chinese technicalcompany. Utilizing my experience, I will take part in major decision-making fortechnology development and research for the company. This is my promise to thewellbeing of our society.
