Today at 3:41 P.M., Milpitas Police Detectives initiated an enforcement stop of a stolen vehicle
that was parked in the Milpitas Square shopping center located at the 400-block of Barber
Lane. The suspect began firing at the Detectives resulting in a prolonged exchange of gunfire.
The suspect sustained injuries and barricaded himself in his vehicle. He was later extricated
from the vehicle and officers provided first aid. Paramedics transported the suspect to a local
hospital for treatment. The involved officers were not injured, and no bystanders were injured.
We are currently following the Santa Clara County Officer Involved Shooting Protocol and the
Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office is assisting in the investigation. We would like to
thank the San Jose Police Department and Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office for their
immediate mutual aid response. The suspect's firearm has been recovered and there is no
continuing threat to public safety.
The investigation is ongoing, and we are actively seeking additional witnesses. Anyone that
witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Milpitas Police Department.
