## Standard SMTS / MTS Loop

A typical Salesforce SWE loop runs:

1. **Recruiter / HR reach-out** (cold or post-application). Sometimes paired with a recruiter prep call; treat the prep call's advice as low signal — preparation guidance can diverge from the actual rounds, so prepare across the bank rather than relying on a single forecast.
2. **Hiring Manager screen** (one short screen). Mostly behavioural and resume walk-through, but some HMs slip in a coding problem mid-conversation. Treat it as a leveling round — the HM's read shapes the eventual offer level.
3. **OA (HackerRank)**. Usually a timed set of medium-difficulty coding problems; the recurring families are linked-list dedup, longest-subseq-substring, palindromic strings, sliding-window time-window, string-compression, min-ops-to-zero. See the question cards for the full list.
4. **2 virtual VO rounds** — one coding, one system design (or one frontend coding + one backend SD for fullstack candidates). For AI Engineer loops, this expands to three rounds: HM chat + Project Deep Dive + AI Fundamentals.
5. **Onsite (SF / Bellevue office)** — usually two more rounds: typically one coding + one system design, occasionally one OOD or one frontend coding. Held in-person at Salesforce Tower (SF) or the Bellevue office; for hybrid candidates this is the friction point.
6. **Team match** — Salesforce sequences team match **after** the loop is approved, not before. Even with a successful loop, candidates have waited weeks-months for the right team. Visa-check / leveling can also re-open at this stage.
7. **HR offer call** — when an offer materialises, the result often arrives within about a week of the final round.

## Timing

The process usually spans several weeks when team matching is quick and can run longer when scheduling or matching stalls. Early screens often move faster than the final onsite and team-match stages. Clarify the expected decision window with the recruiter instead of assuming a fixed turnaround.

## Two Recent Process Changes

- **In-person onsite re-emerged**: many recent loops require travel to SF Tower or Bellevue for the final two rounds. Candidates without proximity should clarify travel expectations early.
- **Re-interview at offer stage** is rare but possible: a hiring manager can still reject after the loop closes, and post-loop calibration can reduce the proposed level.

## Research Scientist Loop

A recent Research Scientist process used four interview rounds. Coding carried substantial weight and mixed conventional algorithms with design-oriented coding and handwritten basic PyTorch modules. A separate research presentation focused on the candidate's latest work, followed by discussion around AI agents. Because exact module interfaces and the presentation rubric can vary, prepare both a concise research narrative and implementation fluency with foundational PyTorch components.

## Team-Specific General-Hire Variant (2026)

A general-hire application can route into a team-specific process immediately after the Futureforce HackerRank OA. In one current flow, recruiter outreach arrived about a month after the OA and introduced a newly formed iOS / Swift team with an August–September start-date target. The sequence was recruiter team introduction → hiring-manager discussion → team-related OOD technical round → planned San Francisco onsite.

Treat this as a separate branch rather than assuming pooled matching. Confirm whether the requisition is still general hire or already bound to a team, what stack is expected, whether onsite travel is required, and whether the original application remains usable if the team stops the process. Holiday and PTO scheduling pushed the planned onsite back repeatedly; the process then ended without feedback while the application remained "in progress," blocking a switch to another team.

## Hiring-Manager First-Round Variant (August 2026)

A 30-minute first-round HM screen may contain only a self-introduction, project and tech-stack discussion, the manager's team overview, and candidate questions — with no explicit behavioral prompt. Treat this compact format as evaluative: strong stack alignment, a warm conversation, and explicit discussion of next steps do not guarantee progression. Prepare concise evidence of scope, technical judgment, and impact even when the manager does not ask standard BQ questions.

## September 2026: Cross Cloud SMTS and MTS Variants

A Cross Cloud SMTS process began with a VP conversation, followed by an OA, two virtual interviews covering coding and system design, and then an in-person stage with another coding interview and another system-design interview. Behavioral discussion occupied about 20 minutes of each round except the final onsite stage. One candidate completed the onsite on a Wednesday and received confirmation the following Monday that team matching would begin; matching was still pending at that point.

A separate MTS sequence consisted of two coding rounds followed by a system-design round. Confirm the sequence for the specific team and level rather than assuming every MTS interview follows the Cross Cloud SMTS structure.

The Recurring Bank: Coffee, LFU, JSON, Curry, Lights

Salesforce's loop is bank-driven: a small set of coding prompts (LFU Cache, Flatten JSON, linked-list dedup, frontend curry + traffic light, OA HackerRank classics) and one signature system design (Coffee Ordering, with its SQL follow-ups) cover the bulk of recent rounds. Down-leveling at offer time is common — the HM screen and behavioural depth materially shape the final level, often more than coding correctness alone.
