Two Fully Funded PhD Positions Available Guo Lab | Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry | Rowan University
Spring 2027 Admission The Guo Lab, https://www.myresearch.top/ggroup/, at Rowan University is seeking two highly motivated PhD students to join an interdisciplinary research program at the interface of materials chemistry, environmental engineering, and analytical science. Successful applicants will receive full financial support, including tuition remission, health insurance, and a competitive graduate stipend. Research Opportunities Our research focuses on developing innovative materials and chemical technologies to solve critical environmental and sustainability challenges, including:
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs)
PFAS ("forever chemicals") detection, analysis, and destruction
Water and wastewater treatment
Resource recovery from waste streams
Advanced separation technologies
Bioimaging and biosensing
Drug delivery and biomolecular applications
Students will receive training in:
Advanced materials synthesis and characterization
LC-MS/MS and analytical chemistry
Environmental chemistry
Water treatment technologies
Interdisciplinary scientific research
Minimum Qualifications Applicants should possess:
A B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline (required undergraduate courses: Chemistry I & II, Organic Chemistry I & II)
Strong experimental laboratory experience
Excellent communication skills
Motivation to conduct independent research
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with experience in:
MOFs and COFs
LC-MS/MS
Environmental chemistry
PFAS-related research

About the Principal Investigator Dr. Lei Guo received her B.S. in Chemistry from Lanzhou University and her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where she conducted research on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) under the supervision of Professor Omar M. Yaghi. Professor Omar M. Yaghi was awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his pioneering contributions to reticular chemistry and porous materials. Dr. Guo is among the next generation of scientists directly trained in this internationally recognized research tradition. Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Guo completed postdoctoral training at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the laboratory of Professor Michael R. Hoffmann, focusing on environmental science and engineering. Dr. Guo joined the University of Arkansas as Assistant Professor in 2022 and will establish the Guo Lab at Rowan University beginning in Spring 2027. Why Join the Guo Lab?
