It took me a while to make sure that we can do the 3-semester option. Apologies for getting back to you late, but I think I am able to get back to you with good news. .--
1) If we decide at the very beginning of the program that the 3-semester option is something that you would like to do, then we can make this happen. What we do not like to see is that a student not securing a job wanting to stay for an extra semester so that they can use this semester as extra time to look for a job. So, if you come with the intention to stay for 3 semesters, then we can draft a course schedule that would allow you to stay for 3 semesters. We need to make sure that you take a strong load of courses each semester..google и
Also a lot of our students do internships during the winter break, which gives them about 5 weeks to work at a company. Some of the students continue their internships throughout the academic year -- though that's something that makes me worried because I want the students to focus on their courses.
2) Yes, we keep the class size small so that the ORIE faculty here can keep a very close eye on the students. We support students fully both in terms coursework and career planning. You will have access to all ORIE faculty on campus any time you want.
3) My feeling is based on your background, skill set and where you want to go, ORIE program is the right choice -- you want to be a quantitative analyst/mathematical modeler/data scientist. As I said in #1 above, we can create a situation for you to stay for 3 semesters at Cornell Tech and you can use the summer for an internship -- as long as we commit to this at the beginning of your study. .google и
From the very first day you step your foot on the campus, you will be engaged with the tech/data science community. Your communication skills are perfectly fine (and we would not admit you if your communication skills were not perfect) and you have a very strong mathematical background. That's all we need to start with. You will use the time you have here to pick up the critical technical/quantitative skills and plug yourself into the tech community, and you will be amazed how fast that is going to happen.
In terms of what to study before you come here, make sure you are strong in linear algebra. MIT has a good opencourse (Google it) on linear algebra. Also watch a course on machine learning. Learn Python. These will give you a jump start.
