Looking for a roommate or two for renting a place near Palo Alto, CA

- About me

I am a new grad in early 20s moving to Palo Alto, CA for a Software Engineer job, and I am looking for a roommate for a long term lease starting Jun 15 or a few days later. I will arrive in Palo Alto on Jun 14.

I am a quiet easy-going guy. I do not smoke, drink or use drugs. I also like doing a little cooking on weekends, we can cook together if you like cooking too. We can also hang out together and discuss algorithm problems if you like.


- Location

The location is probably one of the most important factors that should be taken into consideration. My rule of thumb is that the place we stay should be no farther than a 40-minute drive to El Camino Real and Oregon Expr if departing at 8:15 AM on workdays. I use Google map's worst case estimate for this.

- Price & Preference of apartment/house to rent

I prefer a place that is safe, clean, and convenient, but I do not care about luxury. I am looking for a roommate who agrees with my values when it comes to choosing a place to rent.

There are a few types of apartment/house that I believe are favorable.

- 2 bedroom 1 bathroom (2b1b): more affordable than 2b2b, from what I have seen so far, we should be looking for an apartment that costs no more than around $2500/mo. We could also sublet the living room to a third person to further lower the expense.

- 2 bedroom 2 bathrooms (2b2b): generally much more expensive than 2b1b, we should be looking for something less than around $2900/mo. But if we choose to rent a 2b2b, you should agree to lease the living room to a third roommate, to make it more affordable.

If we have three people, we will go for 3 bedroom options.

- 3 bedroom 2 bathrooms (3b2b): around $3000-$3400

- 3 bedroom 1 bathroom (3b1b): probably much cheaper than 3b2b, as long as you don't mind.

I am open to suggestions as long as it is reasonable.


- Splitting the rent & other agreements

How the rent should be split should be agreed upon before we sign the lease, and the ratio should be based on the area of the room and other factors such as whether a private bath is attached.

Roommates' parents can stay in the apartment for a short term. My parents will visit me occasionally, so I am looking for a roommate who doesn't mind occasional overnight guests. My parents are both engineers, they are very quiet and nice, and they will not occupy public spaces in the apartment when visiting.

Also, no drug of any kind please, and no marijuana.
