A1: Yes, you can waive the core courses, but you will have to have taken the material elsewhere, and have some proof of that to submit to the director / instructors. We can waive EPI 249, but it is not recommended that you do so, as we have found that most students do better in later courses if they have taken EPI 249.
From 1point 3acres bbs
A2:I think you should talk to the program director about that. We generally would like you to take courses at HSPH when possible. The scheduling to take MIT or FAS courses can be difficult, as well as the travel time back and forth.
A3:The thesis is not a fixed number because some of our students like to take more coursework, and we didn’t want them to have to pay for extra credits of coursework. The difference is the amount of time you spend on it. You can do a much more in-depth thesis if you do the 20-credit version, but you won’t get a worse grade for doing a 10-credit thesis.
A4:It is true that some students have switched programs, but it is complicated as you have to fill out an internal application, and attend a meeting of the program directors where you have to explain why you want to make the change, and the reasons have to be compelling. We are going to be adding these details to our handbooks for the coming year, as we just ironed out all the details this year. Also, you can NOT change programs in your first semester, so this makes it complex as you would need to complete the credits required in your program in your first semester as there is no guarantee that you will approved for a change.
A5:Oh, no, it was not even that low for the class of 2016 and they were our inaugural graduating class! We just didn’t have all the data compiled at the time of that report, and it just stayed up, unfortunately. All of our graduates were employed within 3 months, if not sooner. Most had something in place before graduation, I think. I have four alumni who are currently pursuing PhD or MD degrees now, and all the rest are working in places like The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Cognescent in New York City, Aetion, Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital in Cambridge, Panjiva in New York, University of Michigan Center for Translational Pathology, and I even have one working at Walmart Global eCommerce as a Data Scientist. They are all doing well, I think. I hear from them pretty often.
