滑铁卢网申里面有哥Scholarly Contributions REFEREED， 这个是啥意思

我在填滑铁卢网申的时候，有两个地方没看懂，不知道什么区别。求大神解答，这个Scholarly Contributions REFEREED和Scholarly Contributions NON-REFEREED是啥区别。

Question 2. If zero, answer none.
Scholarly Contributions REFEREED (Do not include your thesis, work term reports or any articles that are currently in progress or those on which you do not appear as an author.)
Using the format below, number and list your scholarly contributions including: articles published, accepted or submitted (provide submission number) to refereed journals; other refereed contributions including: papers in refereed conference proceedings, posters.
Required Format:  full authorship as it appears/will appear in the original publication, year, title, publication name, volume, page number(s), and chapters if applicable. For example:
1) MacMillan, J., Applicant, X.X., and Mussar, H. (2008) Chemical composition in potions in Harry Potter. Journal of Alchemy. 269: 1120-1124 (PhD work).

Using the format below, number and list your scholarly contributions including: specialized publications and conference presentations and posters; contributions resulting from your participation in industrial relevant Research and Development activities; patents and copyrights awarded such as software (include title and name of joint inventors).   
Required Format:  full authorship as it appears/will appear in the original publication, year, title, publication name, volume, page number(s), and chapters if applicable. For example:
1) MacMillan, J., Applicant, X.X., and Mussar, H. (2008) Chemical composition in potions in Harry Potter. Journal of Alchemy. 269: 1120-1124 (PhD work).

这两个问题没看懂，好囧。

1.Refereed:
Refereed materials are publications reviewed by "expert readers" or referees prior to the publication of the material. After reading and evaluating the material, the referee informs the publisher if the document should be published or if any changes should be made prior to publication. Refereed materials are also referred to as Peer Reviewed. Refereed materials are significant to the research and the literature of most academic fields because they assure readers that the information conveyed is reliable and timely.
这个应该是正式的publication,需要有reviewer审评通过之后的journal/ conference paper之类的，大部分paper都算这个，个人理解。如果你的毕业论文答辩通过，也收录在学校的论文库里面，这个也应该算refereed,可以写上去

Non-refereed materials such as Trade Journals or Magazines use less rigorous standards of screening prior to publication. In some publications, each article may be only screened by the publication's editor. While knowledgeable, no editor can be an authority on all the subject matter printed in a journal. Other non-refereed materials accept almost anything submitted in order to have something to print.

The term "scholarly materials" is often used to describe refereed materials, but this term is not exclusive to refereed material. Non-refereed materials may not by scrutinized as intensely as refereed materials, but they can still be considered scholarly.

这个比较水一点吧，比如你发到某些非学术杂志的，比如xxx报纸，关于某某科学技术的评论，这个虽然有editor会看，但是editor本身不是 本行业的expert，不能算refereed。

更正一下，non-refereed未必会很水，也会有很牛的很有名的杂志，比如你要是能发一篇关于xxxx技术的评论在新华日报上，也算non refereed
