Alexios Monopolis serves as a Research Scholar and leads a team of faculty from across Hopkins to design and implement an interdisciplinary research initiative focused on sustainability and behavioral change. In addition to his role at E匀HI, Alexios also teaches courses in the Global Environmental Change and Sustainability Program. Outside of Hopkins, he currently serves as the Director of Fitness & Wellness at the Meadowbrook Aquatic & Fitness Center, and as a coach for the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. Most recently, Alexios served as Harvard University's fitness coach, running the university's "Harvard On The Move" program, and as a lecturer and research associate at Harvard's Graduate School of Design. His previous professional experience also included working for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the National Geographic Society, in the Balkans as the International Political Advisor for the organization charged with the development of the only trans-frontier conservation area (or "international peace park") in the region, as a Search & Rescue professional (taking part in several emergency medical operations around the globe ranging from Ground Zero in NYC to Sri Lanka, post-tsunami), as a photojournalist (focusing on environmental and social justice issues), and as a wilderness guide. Alexios received a Ph.D. in Environmental Science & Management from the University of California with a concentration on the psychological dimensions of sustainable lifestyles. He also holds an MSc in Biodiversity Conservation & Management from Oxford University, an MFA and an MA at the University of California in Photography & Filmmaking and International Studies, respectively, an MTS at Harvard University in Environmental Philosophy & Positive Psychology (a.k.a. "the science of happiness"). He was also the recipient of a Senior Fellowship in Environmental Diplomacy and Photojournalism at Dartmouth College and a Fulbright Grant in Sustainability Science & Policy in Mediterranean Europe. Alexios grew up on the island of Corfu, Greece and in Baltimore, Maryland.
