joyce能否给澄清一下，你说的ta，都是full tuition waiver+stipend? 还是只有工资，学费仍然要付？

The Cal policy about this if you work as a TA, you get your wage + instate tuition& fees waiver + insurance waiver.
If you are a California resident, you need to pay nothing
If you are a non-California reisident, all you need to pay is the non-resident fee, which is about 7000 per semester (not too bad) .
PS. Grad student can claim to be a resident of California after one-year of residency and waive the non-resident fees, thats why I say you can be fully covered for your 2nd,3rd, 4th year of study.

i am not sure about the math dept. but in our dept, all the masters are financially supported (at least partially).  But I guess thats because we have a relatively small body of incoming masters each year compared to a relatively large source of funding coupled with a high demand of TAs for our home dept. (Berkeley stats offer a lot large sized undergraduate stats classes.)
