导师简介：Huaizu Jiang will be joining Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University as an Assistant Professor in Fall of 2021. He is now a Postdoc Researcher at Caltech and a Visiting Researcher at NVIDIA working with Prof. Anima Anandkumar. Prior to this, he obtained his Ph.D. from UMass Amherst, advised by Prof. Erik Learned-Miller. He regularly publishes at top computer vision conferences including CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV. His paper, SuperSloMo, was recognized as one of ten coolest paper from CVPR 2018. He received Adobe Fellowship and NVIDIA Graduate Fellowship in 2019.

博士生培养计划：In addition to providing financial support and resources to study, conduct research, and attend academic events, as an advisor, I will also provide my students with first-hand research guidance and experiences. All my students are encouraged to do internships in industry during their Ph.D. study to expand their research area, meet new people, and see what doing research in industry looks like. My connections to industry from my previous experiences and being in Boston make the industrial collaboration very easy.

研究方向：I am broadly interested in computer vision, natural language processing, and computational photography. Currently, there are three active research directions in my lab.

    a) Dynamic scene understanding and synthesis. We live in a 3D visual world, which is constantly in motion. How to build a holistic 3D scene understanding model unifying appearance, geometry, motion, and semantics, to allow a machine to understand and re-create visual scenes more effectively?

    b) Compositional and multimodal visual reasoning. We humans learn concepts in a compositional manner: an event consists of different actions, an action is composed of different objects, and an object can be decomposed into different parts. How can we teach machines to perform compositional reasoning, to allow learning from a few examples and better dealing with out-of-distribution test data? Visual reasoning is also multimodal. Kids, for instance, learn new concepts and knowledge from reading books with pictures and text. How can we teach machines to develop visual intelligence using natural language as a scaffold?

    c) Enhancing photography experiences in the mobile era. Taking photos has never been so easy with smartphones. The latest smartphones are usually equipped with powerful computational resources, cameras, and sensors, such as LiDar and Dual Pixel, which provide us with great opportunities to improve user photography experiences of recording and sharing their daily lives in the mobile era.

顶一下。neu的Phd好像没有申请春季入学的。我是uf的master这个月毕业，看了下neu不接受master degree的 toefl waiver，而我的托福两年前考的已经过期了。所以今年我肯定来不及申请了。并且我上了机器学习的基础课，对机器学习的核心算法算是有入门。但在cv方面没有深入的相关经历。会继续关注您的研究，如果感兴趣会做一些相应的准备。明年考虑申请。

我2021年8月底正式入职，所以2021年夏天没办法招暑研。不过欢迎申请Caltech明年夏天的暑研啊，我们在审材料中。
