On August 31th this year, WSJ published an article: “Individual-Investor Boom Reshapes U.S. Stock Market”, which implied the increasing number of retail investors getting into the resurgent bull market led by tech companies and COVID pandemic that made millions of Americans at home with little to do.
The increasing individual accounts in the stock market also increased the interest and curiosity of trading strategies and ideas, since everyone is trading to make money. But what resources or trading strategies are in the market for regular people who only trade small accounts? Websites like SeekingAlpha, Motley Fool and some other equity research companies only offer fundamental analysis based on some financial models and earnings calls to predict future price, which are normally referred as value investing, other than that, retail investors don’t have much opinions.
Other websites like Tiprank is tracking banking analysts' recommendations as their edge. Tradingview and Stockcharts use old school technical analysis to pick stocks. And that’s basically what all retail investors are able to get nowadays.

As mentioned above, all these websites are charging their users premiums for basically one trading strategy, some are fundamental analysis, some are mirror investing, some are technical analysis. They don’t offer any alternative solutions for their users, and their products or algorithms generally don’t need to be updated much, only need to be changed once every few months when new information comes out. Also, for fundamental analysis websites mentioned above, other than some financial models on excel sheets, the rest procedures are basically “gut feelings”, and there are no backtests backing them.. check 1point3acres for more.
In the fintech period, expanding data science tech to Finance is the main direction of future development of the industry as a power tool for decision making. With new programming languages like Python and technologies coming out, I believe we can do much better. We should be able to offer our users alternative strategies and different trading edges, with full backtesting of previous data and track record, and offer weekly/monthly stock picks based on these strategies to our users, which will give them a lot different options for their portfolios and risk tolerance.
Who are we looking for?. 1point 3acres
As a brand new startup, we, of two team members, are looking for a partner who is a full stack developer to join the team, to help us collect data from the internet and backtest the strategies we found online, eventually make a user friendly website to present these strategies and results to retail investors and offer stock picks based on them.
As a partner and Co-founder, we will offer equity options to the person, and work together to build and grow our business. We are looking to build the core business within 6 months, then start to attract customers and reach out to investors to raise money.
