3. Your are at late 20's, do not expect you can jump to big tech from small startup when you are mid 30's or even late 30's, it is possible but sample is too small.
  
When big techs judge you, they judge you by age, when you are 25, they expect you are L4, when you are 30, they expect you are L5, when you are 35+, they expect you are L6+. You have 10% chance to get in Big Techs when you are new graduates, but you only have 1% chance to get in Big Techs when you are mid 30's, and maybe 0.1% chance when you are over 40. They will never ever hire a person over 35 to do a L4 job. Actually, even you are in the Big Techs, if you are over 35 and have not been promoted to L6, you are in dangerous because PIP is on the way, capitalism is gready !!! They will not pay L6+ salary to an old person to do L5- job in the office for ever. Every year, they keep PIP L5 and hire L3 or L4. Only few lucky guys could get L6, L7 when they are 35 to secure they career for next 5 years, otherwise Leetcode can not be stopped.

At back home, you may still struggle for life but at least you have family, you have your parents, spouse and kids, you are not alone and you will be loved.

You can work in Shenzhen to make more money, and settle family in either Foshan or Huizhou. 996 in Shenzhen from Monday to Friday, enjoy the life in the big affordable apartment during the weekends with family, and enjoy the local food and nice weather as well. And there is no HuKou problem too. Same to Shanghai or Hangzhou, I think Wuxi, Jiaxing or Shaoxing smell so good!

Most people work in menlo park or mountain view on weekdays, they also settle family in either Dublin or even Sacramento to enjoy the big house and weekends.
