Authorities in mid-Missouri are searching for a gunman that they believe is responsible for "multiple" killings.

Callaway County Sheriff Denis Crane said Wednesday that the man is suspected in the shooting death of a Holts Summit man and other killings, but would not say how many. A news conference was planned for 4 p.m.

The known victim is 46-year-old Jeffrey Werdehausen.

The University of Missouri-Columbia said University Hospital is on lockdown.

Crane said in a news release that the suspect may be armed with a high-powered rifle. He said the man apparently targeted his victims.

There are no magazine capacity limitations, except that a concealed handgun permit is required in order to carry magazines with more than 20 rounds in some urban, public areas.
