I am at VMware and will be leaving soon. This is what was on my offer letter
"If you voluntarily terminate your employment for any reason before the one year anniversary of your hire date, you will not earn the Sign-On Bonus, and you agree to immediately repay the Company for the pro-rated unearned amount of the Sign-On Bonus advanced to you."
Even if that was on your offer letter, keep in mind of a few things:. Waral dи,
(1) If you, as per your contract, return sign-on including taxed withholding to VMware, essentially VMware transferred the burden of crediting your-overpaid-tax to you. It doesn't mean you are losing money as a penalty, rather, it just means that you would be the one who claims the over-paid tax, and you have to deal with IRS about rolling over the over-paid credits to next year..1point3acres
(2) You can always interview more and ask your new offer's sign-on bonus to cover your loss. That is what sign-on bonus is supposed to do: covering unvested RSU, covering loss of sign-on bonus.
(3) Your career choice should be more based on opportunities. When looking back in years, you would realize that sign-on bonus is really not a big concern. |
