We have two fully-funded Ph.D. positions in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) with a focus on Statistics/Optimization/Machine Learning/Deep Learning. The start date can be Fall 2022/Spring 2023. The Ph.D. student will work with Bo Shen, an incoming tenure-track Assistant Professor in the MIE department at NJIT. His research focuses on developing advanced machine learning methods with different applications in advanced manufacturing and healthcare. He also has received several prestigious awards, such as the Finalist for INFORMS Data Mining Section Best Paper Award (Student Track), Runner-up for INFORMS QSR Industry Data Challenge, the Finalist for INFORMS QSR Best Refereed Paper Competition, and the finalist for IISE QCRE Best Student Paper Competition.


Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree (required by the start date) in Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Math, Engineering (IE, EE, ME, Material Science, ChemE, etc.), or other related fields.
Necessary mathematical and programming foundation.

• Good English writing and communication skills.
• Strong motivation and interest in research.
• Prior research experience will be a plus.
