Position Description

The Emerging Mobility Lab at Wayne State University (WSU), led by Dr. Xiaodong Qian, invites applications for two Ph.D. student positions in areas of transportation equity, emerging mobility, pedestrian & cyclist safety, and transportation resilience. Prospective students must have a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related fields, such as Transportation Engineering. Preferred skills/experiences include spatial analysis, transportation simulation, data-driven modeling, and computer programming (Python, R, C, etc.). The expected start time is Spring 2023 and Fall 2023. Successful applicants will receive full tuition support and stipends (including summer) for the duration of their studies. About Dr. Xiaodong Qian
Dr. Qian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at WSU. His research focuses on the intersection of transportation equity, emerging mobilities, transportation safety and health, and disaster management. Prior to joining WSU, he works as a postdoctoral associate in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University and in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). He received his bachelor’s degree in Civil  Engineering and Economics & Management from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. degree in Transportation Engineering at UC Davis in 2019. He has been a Principal Investigator (PI) for three projects funded by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
