Position description
Multiple Ph.D. positions starting in Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 are available in the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering at State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton. The successful candidates will be financially supported by Dr. Bing Si to pursue research in the areas of Machine Learning and Statistical Modeling with applications in both healthcare and engineering. The position comes with a full-doctoral level stipend and a tuition scholarship. The prospective students will have the opportunity to get involved in research projects funded by both federal and industry sponsors such as NIH, AHRQ, IBM, and SUNY.

Research interests
Statistical modeling, machine learning, and data fusion with applications in complex healthcare and engineering systems:
•        Statistical machine learning (sparse learning, transfer learning, unsupervised learning)
•        Data fusion (high-dimensional, multi-modal, multi-level, heterogeneous data)
•        Precision medicine (facilitate disease diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring)
•        Population health (mitigate health disparities, improve care delivery, promote public health)
Dr. Si welcomes applicants with different research backgrounds, but preference will be given to highly self-motivated candidates with background in statistics/math or data analytics. Students from all science or engineering majors, especially Statistics, Math, EE, and CS, are encouraged to apply.
