Dr. Qiaofu Zhang’s group at the University of Alabama has two openings for Ph.D. positions starting in Spring 2024 (preferred) or Fall 2024 on computational materials science and ICME-based materials development. These positions are fully funded, including stipend, tuition, and health insurance.
The successful candidates will work with Dr. Qiaofu Zhang in one or two of following areas:

• ICME modeling to link materials' process-structure-property relations in advanced manufacturing.
• New materials development using ICME-based materials design approach.
• High-throughput methods for materials informatics.

Materials of interests includes Nickel-based superalloys, Al-alloys, Cu-alloys, steels, high entropy alloys and ceramic-metal composite.


Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, or related field.
• Strong math backgrounds, programming experience, and computational skills are preferred.
• Self-motivated and strong interest in research.

Bio: Dr. Qiaofu Zhang joined the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MTE)  at The University of Alabama  as an assistant professor in August 2023. Dr. Zhang had his PhD study at the Ohio State University under supervising of Prof. J-C Zhao with focuses on thermodynamics and kinetics of various materials systems. He joined QuesTek as a materials design engineer shortly, and later a senior materials design engineer. His research focuses on ICME modeling and ICME-based materials development. Materials of his interests varies from Ni-based superalloys, Al-alloys, Cu-alloys, Steels, and ceramic-metal composites. Dr. Zhang maintains good collaborations with universities, national labs, and industries.
