Graduate Committee 认为需要 "enhance the visibility and attractiveness of PhD program to prospective students worldwide"。 作为committee member，我来体现service了。

Pros:

• Boulder的地理位置不错，我很喜欢（Btw, 北卡罗利那块的地理位置我觉得也很好）。主要体现在: a) 不是middle of nowhere的college town。Boulder这个城市除了学校，还有Microsoft, Google, VMware, Oracle, Ball Aerospace, Lockheed Martin的Base。还有NIST这种Government Agency，NCAR, NREL, Sandia这种National Lab。创业公司也很多，系里面好几个老师创业大成功已经开溜了。算是个科技小城吧。相应的，居民受教育水平比较高，所以很安全。b) 到大城市丹佛很近，离丹佛机场30分钟，公交直达。丹佛市区居然还有淮扬菜，震惊。c) 科罗拉多这个州经济还可以，家庭收入的中位数全美第9。科罗拉多州是Air Force 和 Space Force 的司令部所在地。如果你玩过红警2，你应该知道我说的是什么。d) 户外天堂，滑雪胜地！
• 系里面政通人和，老师都很nice而又supportive，没什么奇奇怪怪的事。
• research 方面，每个老师都很强，有老师拿到了Alan T. Waterman奖，斯隆奖也有好几个，系强我菜了属于是。学生也是各种fellowship，比如NSF, NASA, Meta, Google的。US News ranking 35, csranking好像是40？

Cons:

• diversity不够。和同类学校比，domestic student 占比有点高。这也就是为什么Graduate Committee 认为有必要提高国际学生的比例。据同事说，疫情之前中国学生比例还挺高的。但是现在，根据我的观察，国际学生主要是印度，伊朗，韩国，还有一些欧洲过来的，大陆基本上就没几个。
• 物价有点高。我没有仔细算过，不过我感觉，Boulder这边的物价应该是高于芝加哥，但是低于湾区。学生一个月3k多一点的stipend，交完税，租个房子，吃喝玩乐啥的，可能一个月剩下不到0.5k-1k。要想过得爽一点，害得是实习。
• 一时想不起来了，想起来再说吧

Master项目
我顺便说一下master项目。Boulder有好几个master项目，一个research-based的，一个面向找工作的professional master项目，还有个专门做网络工程的master项目，可能还有其他的。现在系里面有计划把research-based的master项目变成一个Pre-PhD项目，不知道最后能不能搞成。 其他的我就不是很清楚了。有专门的manager管，可以直接问他们。

Join Our PhD Program in Computer Science at CU Boulder!


We are committed to providing students with the best possible resources and support throughout their’ PhD journey.
Our Ph.D. offer includes

• At least five years of full funding (tuition, fees, health insurance, dental insurance) plus a stipend of approximately $3K/month for the 9-month academic year (additionally, most students receive the stipend during summer). There are 6 weeks of parental leave and sick leave.
• A first-year fellowship of $4K to help with relocation and support during the first semester, and a $1K early career professional development fellowship to attend conferences
• GRE is not required

The Computer Science Department and CU Boulder have consistently risen in rankings over the years. We are the fastest-growing and largest department within the College of Engineering and Applied Science. The department is home to 50 tenured and tenure-track faculty plus 25 instructional faculty and now hosts nearly 1,700 undergraduate and 500 graduate students.

我发现我把recruitment session 的时间写错了，更正一下：Nov 14th 山地时间上午9点，北京时间晚上12点。当天下午4点也有一个，北京时间15号早上7点。

85年的時候爸爸在這邊念博士，所以住過一段時間。現在有時作夢都會夢到當年住的博士生家庭宿舍（記得叫Newton Court?)

根据我的观察，PhD其他专业背景的还是不少的，主要是应用数学和电子这些相关专业。master项目之间是可以转的，master也可以转成PhD。

明白了，谢谢您。因为担心没什么相关research背景又不是本校学生的话，可能会被已读不回，所以才想着是否能通过线上master来边上课边联系一下，是否这样能更容易套到research机会和转phd的机会呢？

你好，我对cu boulder很感兴趣，但是地里的相关帖子不太多:(。

请问贵校cs系转专业进去的人多不多呀，研究生项目之间是否方面互相转呢(eg：non-thesis转thesis)。

楼主您好，我想问一下这个mscs的non-thesis转thesis需要什么要求吗？（如gpa到xxx/需要导师收）还是说没要求都能直接转
