We are looking for highly motivated and talented graduate students (Fall 2024 or Spring 2025) with interests in molecular simulation, machine learning, and mesoscale modeling for research opportunities in AI-assisted multiscale simulations to guide the design of bioinspired advanced functional nanomaterials. Prior experience in computer programming, molecular simulation, lattice Boltzmann method, and machine learning is desirable but not necessary. A strong background in materials science, mathematics, biology, and chemistry/physics is required. Bio: Dr. Mingfei Zhao will join the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Alabama as an Assistant Professor in August 2024. She is a postdoc research associate within the Theoretical Biology and Biophysics Group (T-6) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Before joining Los Alamos, she completed her initial postdoctoral training at the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago from 2019 to 2022. Dr. Zhao got her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from SUNY Binghamton in 2019, after completing her M.S. and B.S. degrees at Shandong University in China. Her primary research focus centers on utilizing multiscale modeling techniques to understand and manipulate biomolecule and particle self-assembly towards a diverse spectrum of applications, including nanofabrication, biomedical, biochemical, and bioengineering fields.
