Join the Purdue NexSys Lab!
The Purdue NexSys Lab is recruiting multiple Ph.D. students for Fall 2026! At the NexSys Lab, we explore how machine learning and computer systems co-evolve to enable next-generation intelligent computing infrastructures. Our research spans two exciting directions:- Machine Learning for Systems: Harness emerging ML techniques, including LLM agents, to build self-aware and self-optimizing computer systems that continuously learn, adapt, and improve.
- Systems for Machine Learning: Redefine the memory and storage stack for LLMs, focusing on post-training optimizations and agentic LLM system design.
If you’re passionate about rethinking how ML and systems co-evolve, come join us at the NexSys Lab! Please email jinghan@purdue.edu with your CV and transcript. |
Prospective students
Applicants to the Ph.D. program should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. A solid background in computer systems, computer architecture, or machine learning is highly desirable. Applicants should also meet the minimum requirements specified by Purdue ECE Graduate Admissions.
Background
Dr. Jinghan Sun is an incoming Assistant Professor of the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Purdue University. He is currently a visiting researcher at Meta Fundamental AI Research (FAIR). Prior to joining Meta and Purdue, he obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research spans the co-design of machine learning and computer systems, from storage hardware and system software to large-scale cloud platforms. His research has been published in top-tier venues, including OSDI, ASPLOS, MICRO, and SC, with industrial impact through collaborations with Google, Microsoft, and Western Digital. He is a recipient of the ML and Systems Rising Stars 2025, the Kenichi Miura Award at UIUC, and the NVMW Memorable Paper Award Finalist.
