PhD Openings in CS @ Iowa State University (AI/ML)

Multiple fully funded Ph.D. positions are available in the Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University (ISU). Successful candidates will work with Dr. Mengdi Huai toward their Ph.D. degrees.

Dr. Huai’s research interests broadly span artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data mining. Her current work primarily focuses on Responsible and Trustworthy AI, particularly the trustworthiness of large language models (LLMs) and other foundation models. She has published over 60 papers in top-tier venues such as ICML, NeurIPS, ICCV, KDD, AAAI, and IJCAI. Dr. Huai is a recipient of several prestigious honors, including the NSF CAREER Award, the EECS Rising Star, and the Rising Star in Data  Science. Her Ph.D. students have received multiple research awards at ISU.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
• Strong programming and/or mathematical skills.
• Prior research experience in AI, machine learning, data mining, NLP, or CV is preferred.
• High motivation and passion for research and tackling challenging problems.
