Two Ph.D. assistantships are available starting in Spring or Fall 2027 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Under the supervision of Dr. Kaixiang Zhang, Ph.D. students will conduct independent and innovative research in robotics and automation, with research opportunities spanning control, perception, artificial intelligence, and their applications in areas such as agricultural robotics and intelligent systems. The assistantship package includes a monthly stipend, tuition support, and benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S.  degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• English proficiency meeting the university’s admission requirements (e.g., TOEFL: 79+ or IELTS: 6.5+, as applicable).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ROS, Python/C++/MATLAB, electronics, or mechanical design.
• Research experience in robotics, control, computer vision, machine learning, or related areas.
• Publications in relevant peer-reviewed conferences or journals are a plus.
