1既然B和J让你选，我觉得签J1稳妥些吧，遇到什么问题可以问的人也多些。

2你跟prof说好的，而且只是暑假去一下。我觉得如果prof的学校能提供材料的话，应该不至于被拒签。

3看你在哪里签证了。

4应该影响不大。只要到时候跟VO能正常交流应该就符合签证的要求了吧

I am pleased to extend an invitation to you to participate in a summer research program in my laboratory, at the department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology, XXX University from June to August, 2011. As we both understand that you will not be paid for participating in this summer internship and you will financially support yourself for this program.

The primary research interest in my laboratory focuses on molecular plant/microbe interactions by using bacterial blight of rice as a model. The project of your research is“Identify host disease susceptibility genes for bacterial blight of rice”. The long term goal of this project is to understand the molecular mechanism of bacterial blight of rice. In short term, you are expected to conduct research to address one important and fundamental
question: What are the candidate genes encoding the downstream components of the Os8N3-mediated disease susceptibility pathway? The bacterial blight of rice, caused by the bacterial pathogen, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is one of the most devastating rice diseases in Asia and Africa. Like many other plant diseases, this disease is the complex outcome of molecular interactions between host plant and microbial factors.Therefore, it is also a model to address some fundamental questions of biology in general and plant pathology in particular. To conduct the first part of the experiment, you will
deploy yeast two-hybrid method to identify rice proteins that physically interact with Os8N3. To perform the second part of the experiment, you will purify and separate those protein complexes by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis before identification of their chemical compositions by mass spectrometry. You may have time to sequence the corresponding genes encoding the isolated proteins this summer.

I hope that you will gain hand-on research experience in an American universitylaboratory, and foster your interest in plant molecular biology through this summer research program. Importantly, I also hope you will have plenty of opportunity to communicate with other faculty on campus and visit their laboratories. On the other hand, it is of my intention that you will like XXX University and choose it to continue your graduate study in the future.

那个签B-1 unpaid intern 的学长看了我的invitation letter后说“挺好的，签证的时候实话实说就行”
然后我问他“title叫做intern合适吗”   
他说“你就说去help them do research in the lab”

米表示很混乱，是不是，你可以直接email给领事馆。
不过偶刚才去领事馆签证的页面扫了一下，
关于B的话，我也同意有风险，

官方是说：

大多数非移民签证申请人是去美国进行短期商务和观光活动的。B-1签证签发给短期商务和短期自费培训者；B-2签证签发给短期观光游客；还有一种综合的B1/B2签证。如果您是赴美进行短期商务/培训或观光的，您必须：

必须在美国以外拥有一处您不会遗弃的住所；
在美国仅作限定的短期停留；
在逗留结束之后会离开美国；而且
有充足的资金支付此行所需费用.

根据1952年修订的移民和国籍法案的214(b)条款，每个签证申请人都被合法假定为具有移民倾向。除非申请人出示以上证明，使面谈的签证官确信这种假定可以被推翻，否则申请人不可获得签证。

"B-1" 签证: B-1签证适用于短期商务旅行。这包括合同谈判，参加展览和会议，短期培训，以及和供应商与客户的洽谈。90天以下的短期培训也可使用B-1签证。（关于长期培训签证的情况，请点击这里。）B-1签证不适用于在美国工作。

"B-2" 签证: B-2 visa适用于观光旅行，如观光，探访亲友以及就医。访美期间不得工作。

你看你的情况是短期的，拿工资吗？如果拿工资的话，我感觉貌似有点跟去US做博士后类似吧。

如此，那我觉得旅游就好啦。

不过还是发个邮件或者电话去问问领事馆申请什么签证，需要什么材料，怎么办手续。我觉得他们应该会很kindly回复你的。

首先，你是在校学生，只是在暑假的时候去两个月。
其次，你是接受对方教授的官方邀请自费去学习的（小米理解成这个），反正不拿钱，自己出钱，就是一个title的问题。
