PhD positions available in data mining/machine learning/big data analytics

I am recruiting students who are interested in Data Mining, Machine Learning and Big Data analytics, and their applications in economy (e.g., recommender systems), life science (e.g., drug design, Bioinformatics), social science (e.g, social networks), complex systems (e.g., system tracking and anomaly detection, security), etc.

Ideal candidates should have a strong background in Math, Statistics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering or Automation. Extensive programming experience in either C, Matlab or Python is highly desired.

The CS doctoral program of IUPUI is managed by the Computer Science Department of Purdue University, which is among the top 20 CS programs in US. CS@IUPUI awards Purdue PhD degrees.

关于Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI):

IUPUI是Indiana University （IU） 和Purdue University (PU) 的一个联合校区（IUPUI不是一所大学！）， 在Indianapolis. 校区上有IU的医学院和PU的工学院的一部分。 IUPUI的形成是出于Indiana州政府对两所学校学科互补的考虑： IU没有engineering (只有informatics), PU没有medical school,  所以政府在两所学校地理位置的中间建立了IUPUI校区， 把每所学校有的而另一所学校没有的那些学科放到了这个校区上。

CS是PU的program, 所有的招生、prelim考试和最后的答辩都有CS@PU管理， 学位也是PU的（diploma上是Purdue University, 没有IUPUI； committee里要有3个人来自PU west lafayette, chair 也要是PUWL的）， 但要求会比PUWL的低一些。

因为CS@IUPUI是PU的 （也就是说， CS@IUPUI不是一个独立的program）， 没资格被单独排名， 所以在市面上的专业排名中没有CS@IUPUI。 CS@IUPUI的论文和毕业生等都是贡献给CS@PU的排名， 而funding的数量都是贡献给IU的排名。
