【NEWEST UPDATE!】USC Viterbi School of Engineering Information Session

The Information Session started at 10:00a.m Sept 24th and was hosted by a director and vice dean of school of Engineering
USC ranks 10th of USNEWS 2011 Engineering School and 11th of engineering school program.

Mainly introduce several points as follows:

1.        21,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduates; 137 faculty members
2.        MS deadline Dec 15th, Phd deadline Dec 1st
3.        Scholarship is merry-based but not neat-based, which means the admission committee will not offer scholarship because of low financial condition; Phd fellowship $30,000/year
4.        Application checklists
      a)        $85 maximum 5 programs within one school
      b)        Official transcript after high school
      c)        GPA better than 3.0 (the average for newly enrolled engineering students is    3.37*)   //低于这个GPA的表示压力很大啊
      d)        GRE->(Q749, V478)  //看来GRE要求不是很高……
      e)        TOEFL->better than 100, otherwise need to take additional English courses ($5,000 for three credits)  //最好大于100吧，学分不是一般的贵！！
      f)        3 Recommendation Letters ,Statement of Purpose and Resume required for PHD apply; Master can apply without those documents  //这个只有工学院的Master可以免去PS、RL、CV
      g)        Proof of financial support after admission
5.        Receive 8,500 applications every year! Give 10-digit ID number for each candidate   //这10位ID号可以追踪每个申请人的进度
6.        Tuition $27,000/year
7.        CPT 2 semesters; OPT 1 year
8.        Lots of job opportunities-> Career fair oriented with engineering students; four-hour fast drive to Silicon Valley, San Diego with lots of opportunities


把15楼的补充放上来啦
1.原帖上的Deadline可能有些误解， MS的Deadline是Feb 15,2012，奖学金的申请Deadline是December15, 2011。在December15, 2011之前递交的申请自动纳入scholarship consideration，December15, 2011之后，如需申请奖学金，需另外递交申请。
2. 以上所有的分数是Viterbi School of Engineering newly enrolled students的平均分，宣讲会上并没有透露任何最低录取分数的说法.....还有，USC对AW无要求
在学校的Handout上，有两行小字：“These scores are averages. Students with scores above and below these averages were both admitted and not admitted.”个中的含义，大家都能理解吧～
3. Master是授课制的，有thesis option，不是强制的
4. 只有申EE，CS的硕士可以免RL、PS、CV



这几天USC又有新的邮件，有两点更新：

1.You may apply for up to FIVE (5) programs, including Master’s and PhD, with one application fee.
For example, if you are interested in applying for MS in Electrical Engineering and the PhD in Electrical Engineering, you may apply for both with one $85 application fee.You do not have to pay it twice.

2.The deadline to apply for Master of Science programs is February 15, 2012 and in order to be considered for scholarships, your full application must be complete by December 15, 2011.
This means we must receive all of your transcripts and other materials by December 15 in order to be considered for scholarships.

弱问英语成绩是必须要大于那个分数线的么？
比如GRE的V？

感觉这分数高了，据我了解3.2就差不多了，3.3作为录取分数线，很多人可以直接考虑排名更靠前的学校了，所以我赞同另外一个帖子里的说法，可能申请的人多了，拉高了分数线。

每年都差不多。但是今年的deadline怎么这么早。。。以前MS都没有deadline的
