Graduate Research Assistant

Research assistantships (half-time RA) are available for graduate students (Ms/PhD) in the area of environmental engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). The sponsorship may be improved to full-time RA based on the student’s performance and the funding availability. The research area lies in drinking water and industrial water treatment using different technologies, and interaction of nanoparticles with microorganisms in the environment. Current interests are focused on using (bio)electrochemical method or nanotechnology for water/wastewater treatment, and nanoparticles’ influence to soil microbes. Research interests also include sensors and materials development for health, sustainability and safety. The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental or chemical engineering (or equivalent), be self-motivated and has good hands-on skills.
