Could you give examples of about "tech skills"? You mean Python/Linux/SQL/ML ?

Because I think different sub-fields of bioinfor require different skills.

ppl working on whole-genome seq usually have to deal with very large-scale data, so they'll be expert on HPC.
ppl working on RNA-seq usually do lots of clustering as well as R plot.

Also, personally I think tech skills in industry, in part, are quite different from our training at academia. For example, we process big data on HPC, but barely touch Hadoop/Mapreduce/Spark, which is widely used in industry.
