5th AD from NWU, 顺便求转学经验

申请季终于结束，本来打算等春季再去CMU-SV，现在来了西北的AD，萌生了先去西北读一个学期再转学到CMU的打算，跪求各位大佬帮忙分析一波

Congratulations on your admission to CMU!  Thanks for reaching out, you ask some great questions.  I’m going to copy our Office of International Education (OIE) on this email, as some of your questions are related to immigration restrictions, as well as admission.  Jessica Tomko, our admissions coordinator, can answer your question about transferring in your academic record from another institution and how that might work.

. While you should confirm this information with OIE directly, I do know that you do need to be registered for one full academic year to be eligible for CPT, so starting in spring at CMU would not allow you to do CPT over the summer.  A full academic year varies depending on whether an institution is on the quarter, trimester, or semester system.  At CMU, two consecutive semesters is equal to a full academic year.  My understanding is three consecutive quarters is considered a full academic year, and one quarter plus one semester is not equal to one academic year.  However, CMU’S OIE and the other institution’s office of international education would be the ones to give offer you this advice officially.

Detailed information about how to transfer courses in can be found in our handbook on the website (https://www.ece.cmu.edu/programs-admissions/masters/index.html ), but in summary you may transfer up to 12 units of eligible coursework after you have completed at least 36 units (one semester).

I can confirm what Stephanie says below. In order to be eligible for Practical Training (CPT or OPT) next summer, you would have to prove that you have been enrolled full-time in a Fall semester and Spring semester. NWU是quarter制...

quarter制学费不能一个quarter一个quarter交？？？或者去semester制的学校也可以吧！！！   本来想读ucd 17fall然后转到usc18spring    ucd是quarter制的 这样看来不行的话 就只能先nyu或者neu的semester 制度的17fall 然后18spring转到usc 这样应该可以的吧？？？

很不幸地告诉你。。西北是quarter制的，正常来说转到cmu也不能拿cpt

MS-ECE的advisor Stephanie跟OIE的Lindsay都说是不可以的，建议你再多了解一下，如果转过来还是不能拿CPT就血亏了
