How do you define good? I guess your boss does not help his student find a good job?

In my opinion, "a good department" means that faculties there are doing world leading research or have great influence over its industry. Therefore, the students there could gain advanage in obtaining a faculty position or finding a job.

Thank you for your reply! Other than location, I think Umich is doing world leading research. Ehsan Efshari on mm-wave, Michael Flynn on biomedical and ADC, and DD's group publishes around 6-7 paper in ISSCC every year? I am not familiar with the digital so things like random number generator might be bogus....But I think their research on low-power circuits are interesting.
Anyway, I think you made a wise decision. You get paid so little compared to software engineer if you work as an IC designer.

Maybe you are right. I think ICers do not have many chances of making a great fortune in the future. But I am not fimiliar with software industry, so I am not sure if it is a better choice for me. Almost everyone are transfering to software. It really makes me afraid.

能不能问问楼主PhD是做什么电路的？analog/mixed-signal还是digital还是RF？
