2017-2018 PhD Student Positions in Mechanical Engineering
Three openings for PhD studies are available in Dr. Xiaoping Du's group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla). The research will be in engineering design, focusing on reliability-based design, optimization, robust design, and probabilistic methodologies. Potential applications include mechanical systems and structural systems. The students will receive rigorous training and interact intensively with their academic advisor. High quality journal papers are expected for the PhD program.
The financial support will be primarily in the form of GRA, maybe combined with GTA. The support will include a monthly stipend of approximately $2100-2200 for 12 months each year, and the tuition will be waived. Financial aids may also be available for students to attend professional conferences.
The minimal requirements are as follows:
(1) Strong background in mathematics
(2) Satisfaction of the departmental admission requirements
• A minimum GRE Quantitative score of 155
• A minimum GRE Quantitative + Verbal score of 302
• A minimum GRE Analytical Writing score of 3.5 (3.0 may be acceptable)
• A TOEFL score of at least 88 (IBT)
