Background:
Prof. Zhao's research focuses on computer system and architecture topics with an emphasis on memory systems, high-performance computing, and domain-specific acceleration. She is also interested in electronics design automation and VLSI design for three-dimensional integrated circuits and nonvolatile memories. Prof. Zhao has extensive collaborations with industry (Google, Intel Labs, Micron, West Digital, AMD Research, and HP Labs, etc), which may provide sufficient opportunities for internship in these groups. She has been regularly publishing in top computer architecture venues, such as ISCA, MICRO, DAC, and TACO, etc. Please check her webpage (https://users.soe.ucsc.edu/~jzhao/index.html) for details.
Prof. Zhao will move to CSE, UCSD in January 2018 (http://cse.ucsd.edu/about/news/n ... itecture-and-system). She has multiple openings for both postdoc (can start from Jan, 2018) and Ph.D. students (Fall 2018) to conduct research in computer system and architecture. The CSE@UCSD is ranked 15th for graduate computer science programs and 11th for computer system research program according to US News (https://www.usnews.com/best-grad ... er-systems-rankings).
Positions: Multiple research positions (both Postdoc and Ph.D.) in CSE@UCSD
For postdoc positions, qualifications include:
1. Within three years of finishing Ph.D. study and have passion to continue adavanced research.
2. Strong publication record in computer system and architecture.
3. Strong programming and computer system skills.
Preference of Research Assistant positions will be given to candidates who have earned a M.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields. Outstanding bachelor students with relevant research experience will also be considered. The candidates she is mostly interested in should have:
1. Self motivation. Only self-motivated students can achieve fruitful accomplishments during Ph.D. study.
2. Strong programming experience, preferably with C/C++ and Python.
3. Experience with Linux system or kernel development.
