读AE各个方向的学长学姐来聊聊天呗

地里潜水越久，越羡慕隔壁CS/ECE等无良（误）专业令人发指的群众基础，甚至在学科交流区都有自己独立的板块，顿时感觉Aerospace E是没人疼的孩子，翻遍了近年的帖子到上古神贴也只能找到零星的几个录取播报，心里苦哇T-T不过，吐槽归吐槽，擦干眼泪，想想在这个弥漫着转CS的歪风邪气的坛子泡了这么久还没有被劝退的各位AE先贤，想必就一定是大浪淘沙剩下的真爱了，所以不如开个帖子，深情邀请各位奋斗在AE科研一线的前辈来聊聊天，给AE萌新介绍介绍经验指指坑，顺便能够结交一下各路AE豪杰，互抱大腿

You bet! I am attracted by CFD mostly because there’s a lot to do with the flux, vortex, transition, shock waves all that sort of things as well as numerical method, algorithm and even ML, meanwhile the coding skills could be improved and refined. And I believe CFD is more practical than other branches of gas dynamics such as experimental fluid mechanics or combustion. (Is that true?) It really looks like a good choice.
Btw, among GaTech, Umich, Purdue and UIUC, which one do you think does better in this area, or have a larger amount of faculty on it?
Really appreciate a lot for your time!

CFD is very interesting, I have some experience on it and currently my research on computational plasma physics can still benefit from CFD.

I would say if you like the CFD, then go for it. You will not regret it if you really like it. I think CFD has lots of branches, and a strong background in Math will definitely help you but it is not a necessary condition. I would say you should focus more on the physics itself and numerical PDE. Strong techniques in the scientific background are also very important. Fluid Mechanics and CFD are the coolest area among all areas in Aerospace Engineering.

I would say control and design will be much better than fluid...

I have seen so many people's CV on Linkedin and I found out that the people who study the solid mechanics/Manufacturing can find jobs in the industry easily, as there are lots of positions in car industry and solid structure and oil industry... However if you study fluid and have no citizenship, the only place you can go will be the CFD software companies.... ANd the competition will be very huge....

AE的community就那么大，申请时候要注意教授名气。当然AE拿得出手的学校不多，选校还是很好选的。

这种就很难找到一个直观的衡量了，你可以看看教授都有什么项目、经费来源。最近的会议论文数量应该能看出来是否活跃，最近的期刊论文数量还有引用能看出来实力，不过这都很片面的。AE有的东西做出来是用的，不是拿来发表的。
