Ph.D. student position available in Dept. Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Jian-Xun Wang seeks two highly qualified Ph.D. students for the Graduate Research Assistant (GSA) positions in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame (ideally 2018 Fall). Highly-motivated, independent students who are interested in data-enabled computational physics, including the areas of computational fluid dynamics, cardiovascular hemodynamics, turbulence modeling, or other physical applications are welcomed to apply. Qualification we require:
• B.S./M.S. in engineering (including mechanical, civil, aerospace, ocean, automotive etc. engineering) or
applied math etc.
• Highly motivated in research.
• GRE, TOEFL (IBT > 90)
• Excellent written and communication skills
Dr. Jian-Xun Wang Bio (https://sites.google.com/a/vt.edu/jianxunwang/)
Dr. Jian-Xun Wang holds a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China. He also holds a Master degree in Ocean Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech, USA.
Currently, he is working as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley and he is also affiliated with the Dept. Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. In 2018, he will join the Dept. of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. His current research focuses on data-enabled modeling (data assimilation, machine learning) and uncertainty quantification (UQ) in fluid mechanics and other physical applications.
