procedure. Additionally, approximately 75% ofall applicants are

international, so we tend to admit moreinternational than domestic

M.S., M.S. / Ph.D., Ph.D.:
Fall 2014 (admission and financial support consideration) - December 16, 2013
Fall 2014 (admission only) - January 15, 2014
Ph.D. ONLY:
Winter 2014 (admission only) - November 1, 2013
Spring 2014 (admission only) - January 2, 2014
Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degrees
The ECE department offers both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Applicants must specify one of three programs:

M.S. Program: for students who are primarily interested in a Master's degree. It does not preclude entering the Ph.D. program at a later date if you become more interested in research.
M.S./Ph.D. Program: for students who have not yet earned a Master's degree and also intend to do research towards the Ph.D. degree.
Ph.D. Program: for students who already have an Master's degree and intend to do research towards the Doctor of Philosophy degree.

Overview
Computer engineering research at UCSB spans a wide spectrum of topics, from devices and integrated circuits to software systems and applications. Computer architecture, which is central to the efforts aimed at improving the performance, cost-effectiveness, and energy efficiency of computing systems, is a key focal point.

The computer engineering faculty at UCSB conduct collaborative, multidisciplinary projects that allow students and other participants to engage in practically motivated, state-of-the-art research problems. There is an intense focus on industrial relevance and on the impact of emerging technologies on the direction of our field.

Personal Achievements/Contributions Statement
UC Santa Barbara is interested in a diverse and inclusive graduate student population. Please describe any aspects of your personal background, accomplishments, or achievements that you feel are important in evaluating your application for graduate study. For example, please describe if you have experienced economic challenges in achieving higher education, such as being financially responsible for family members or dependents, having to work significant hours during undergraduate schooling or coming from a family background of limited income. Please describe if you have any unusual or varied life experiences that might contribute to the diversity of the graduate group, such as fluency in other languages, experience living in bicultural communities, academic research interests focusing on cultural, societal, or educational problems as they affect underserved segments of society, or evidence of an intention to use the graduate degree toward serving disadvantaged individuals or populations.
