There are multiple RA openings for PhD students working on Deep Learning and related areas in EECS@LSU starting from Fall 2018.
The student is expected to perform research under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Peng with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Louisiana State University. (www dot ece dot lsu dot edu/lpeng). The research areas include distributed Deep Learning algorithms, accelerator design for Deep Learning, Big Data analytics, data centers, computer security, and GPUs.
Prof. Peng's group has published multiple papers in top-tiered journals (IEEE Trans. on Computers, IEEE Trans. on Parallel and Distributed Computing, IEEE Trans. on VLSI, IEEE Trans. Dependable and Secure Computing, etc) and conferences (ACM/IEEE ISCA, IEEE HPCA, ACM Sigmetrics, ACM/IEEE DAC, etc). The research of Prof. Peng has been funded by national and state agencies including NSF and Department of Energy. The job market for Prof. Peng's students is very good. During the PhD study, students had been recommended with internship opportunities from Intel, AMD, and national labs. PhDs graduated from Prof. Peng's group obtained jobs from Intel, AMD, and Alibaba. A PhD graduate has become assistant professor in University of Texas at San Antonio.
The selection criteria are listed as follows:
1. BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required; An MS degree is preferred;
2. Strong programming skills in C/C++ is required;
3. Background and experience in either software (Linux/Unix kernel or virtual machines), embedded system, deep learning, or hardware (Verilog/VHDL) is preferred.
