Two PhD positions with full financial supports are immediately available in the laboratory of laser-based manufacturing at the University of Utah. The positions will start in 2018 fall semester. The students will primarily work on a series of projects on multiple metal additive manufacturing processes.
ALL APPLICANTS REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND are encouraged to apply, any of the following background will be a plus:
• Metal casting, welding, sintering
• Material characterization using SEM/TEM/EBSD/XRD
• Numerical modeling using Phase Field and/or Molecular Dynamics methods

Professor Wenda Tan is an assistant professor in the mechanical engineering department. Professor Tan recently received the very prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation of the United States. This award “is given out to faculty “who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.”
