Prof. Zhao's research focuses on computer system and architecture topics with an emphasis on memory systems, high-performance computing, and computer architecture support for machine learning systems. She is also interested in electronics design automation and VLSI design for three-dimensional integrated circuits and nonvolatile memories. Prof. Zhao has extensive collaborations with industry (Google, Intel Labs, Micron, West Digital, AMD Research, HP Labs, and Pony.ai, etc), which may provide sufficient opportunities for internship in these groups. She has been regularly publishing in top computer architecture venues, such as ISCA, MICRO, HPCA, ASPLOS, DAC, and TACO, etc. Please check her webpage (http://cseweb.ucsd.edu/~jzhao/) for details.

Prof. Zhao's group has multiple openings for Ph.D. students (Fall 2019) to conduct research in computer system and architecture. The CSE@UCSD is ranked 15th for graduate computer science programs and 11th for computer system research program according to US News (https://www.usnews.com/best-grad ... er-systems-rankings). Prof. Zhao's group currently has 8 top-notch Ph.D. students, all graduated from great universities (Cornell, UIUC, UMich, Stonybrook, Tsinghua, Zhejiang University, and Xi'an Jiaotong University, etc). So you will be joining a group of talented students.

Preference of Research Assistant positions will be given to candidates who have earned a M.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields. Outstanding undergraduate students with relevant research experience will also be considered. The candidates she is mostly interested in should have:
1. Self motivation. Only self-motivated students can achieve fruitful accomplishments during Ph.D. study.
2. Strong programming experience, preferably with C/C++ and Python.
3. Experience with Linux system.
4. Experience with machine learning is appreciated, but not required.

招过，现在的学生里就有在工业界待过的。有出色的工业界经历不仅不是弱点，反而是个闪光点。
