前端吃你家大米了

感觉看个人兴趣吧，有兴趣的事情总会想多学多做，也有热情。除非待遇，前景相差太多，要不然还是随心吧

In fact, it doesn't matter what you do (front end, backend, full stack, data science, big data, mobile development, and etc).  It matters whether or not you are the subject matter expert (SME) in that field.  If you are just a normal developer, you are replaceable.  

How to become a SME?  It purely based on your interest and your ability.  I don't think front end developers are the 2nd class citizen in a company.  In fact, UI is customer facing and it is really important. However, it is not easy to become a good front end developer. A good one usually has the sense on how to design the UI with good user experience (UX).  I used to work with some backend developers to develop some UI for internal use.  However, the UI is really plain.  Once we hired a good front end developer, the tool became really slick, and everybody liked it a lot.  The user experience is totally different: for example, the page layout, the background color, the buttons, they are so beautiful.

IHMO, for a junior engineer (less than 3 years' experience), you should learn as much as possible: front end, backend, big data, mobile development since anything is new to you.  If you are assigned a new task and you don't have experience, take it, and learn how to do it.  It is a good opportunity for you to learn new stuff.  Think about it: the company pays for you to learn.

However, once you have 3 to 5 years' experience, you may need to think about your long term goal:  What do you want to become in another 5 years?  Do you want to be an engineer / architect, or manager?  Are you love coding? Are you good at dealing with people or politics?

. 1point3acresIf you want to stay in tech and become an architect, you may need to focus on a couple fields.  In the last 5 years, you should have tried a few things.  You know what you are good at, and you already have some experience in different fields.  An architect usually has a broad knowledge on all most fields, but might be a SME in only in a few fields.

If you want to try management, it is a little different.  Usually, it is not easy to become a manager.  A company won't hire you as manager if you don't have management experience.  The best chance is you stay in a company for a long time, and your team's manager either gets promoted or quit.  The most important thing is you need to let your manager know you are interested in management role (during 1-on-1 with your manager).  Of course, you need to demonstrate your ability, at least in project management like leading a project.  This is a long topic to discuss on how to become manager.  Maybe I should talk about it in a new topic.

Back to the topic: become a front end develoepr or not?  It is up to you.  I am sure your company has UI tech leads, UI managers.  All roads lead to Rome!

真真后端工程师自己写不出来好看的页面还非得说这些东西太简单但是却太麻烦不愿意去搞，结果一边鄙视前端工作（可能还有前端工程师），一边痛苦的修改着各种div，float 飘来飘去就是飘不到位置。
我因为一段时间工作上的原因写了好几个月前端，之后在总结的时候老板一副前端那点玩意儿没有什么技术含量，你其实是在***方面提升不少，我心里十万匹草泥马啊，你是不知道我改了一个js特效花了几宿么

所以 当有人鄙视前端工作或者前端工程师的时候不要理会他们了，因为他们压根不懂，他们是这个方向的loser 哈哈 这么一想心情瞬间大好

前端受需求变动的影响太大了，碰到拍脑袋的PM就免不了加班了。。。
另外，不管在哪码农就是要坚持学习的吧

我也是前端工程师， 起初进入公司做的是后端的工作， 后来因为网页端的project需要人手， 所以才有了现在前端的职位，但是我觉得这对我来说是件好事， 因为从此以后我爱上了做前端， 并且对自己现在所做的工作有极大的热情，前端确实需要不断的学习，我们的framework单去年就升级了两次， 每升级一次，我们就要migrate现有的project到新的版本， 每一次都会出现好多问题， 但是解决问题的时候其实又是又一次学习的机会嘛，我觉得还是自己的兴趣所在和心态最重要，那些前端和后端的比较， 谁更牛等等，只要自己自得其乐，每天都有学习进步，又有如何呢

作为一个全栈程序媛，我觉得前端水也很深哎。。。

同是new grad的路过。。说下我的所见所闻与想法给lz参考
我自己本身对前端很有爱，想想在某帖里有个人说他个性就比较喜欢fancy的东西（或者把一个东西搞得很fancy 哈哈），我就属于这类型的人

在cs环境里确实对前端不友善。我本以为是传言，但这一两年经历了一些事后慢慢发现这是真的。我cs毕业的老师说他讨厌javascript，不喜欢node.js。我实习时的mentor也说他对前端比较没兴趣，每次PR看我提交的前端基本上都只扫一遍:p  我想cs对前端的不重视原因有二，一是对js语言本身有许多批评，二是对设计的不了解，觉得就是美术&美术就是靠直觉搞出来的，不尊重专业。

我自己找工时发现前端岗位比后端要少。有不少前端是包括在swe里面（那就成了full stack了），或就只招senior fe岗位。
最近跟一位sw manager谈过后，他说还有个趋势是designer现在也跨来做前端code了。我实习时ux designer也来写前端了。综合来说，我个人感觉前端确实有点被designer跨行的人和cs/swe里的不重视所稀释掉了

其实现在UX搞起来前端是会搞死人的，一堆动效，还要时时给用户即时反馈，这些logic都很复杂。es6, webpack tool chain一上来，我自己觉得难度甚至不低于后端，而且web前端现在也能做native mobile app。。
因为这些原因，我现在也开始搞full stack的项目了。这样一来至少也能做做前端，而且在new grad阶段我觉得多学一些倒不是什么坏事
我觉得大环境如此，还是有些翻转发挥的机会，像是变成full stack，或者结合UX项目，为自己增加价值。跟lz共勉～～

在职业初期，前端可能相对容易上手一些，后端相对包裹好一些。

. From 1point 3acres bbs过了头几年，能开始独当一面的时候，没啥区别，最重要的还是所在的公司所在的组的机会。前端的也有lead对产品也有很多发言权，很多前端的也要负责DB metadata的设计，business logic的很多东西。个人后端。
