I'm XXX and I've recently received admission to M.S. in CE (2019 fall) at Northwestern. I have a few questions about EECS courses and graduation requirements that I hope you can help me with. Thanks very much for your time!
(If you enter the program in fall 2019, then the new rules will apply to you, as stated in the manual that will be released before the end of the summer. The rules in the new manual, when it is released, will override anything I say in this email (that is, if there is a conflict between information in this email and the new manual, the new manual prevails). We are in the process of drafting and approving sections of the new manual and separating it from the CS and EE program manuals to avoid confusion. This is a long process, so please bear with us.)
1. I've noticed that ECE and CS are split this year. Does this mean it will be harder for ECE students to choose CS courses?
(No, it will be the same. CE is a joint program between the CS and the ECE departments, and CE-approved courses are a mix of all three programs.)
2. Last year's graduate manual said that we need 12 units to graduate, 6 of which must be CE courses. I've noticed that many courses I like, which were originally counted for 6 CE courses, now have ELEC_ENG title. Do EE courses count for 6 units of CE courses?
(The requirements remain mostly the same. There are some small changes, though. The authoritative list of courses that count towards the 6 CE credits will be published in the new guide when it is ready. To help you out with your decision, I include below the list that will be brought to the faculty for approval. While the list below is not final and may change before the end of the summer, it will give you an idea of what are the ballpark expectations. Subject to approval at the next CE faculty meetings, the courses that may count for the 6 CE credits are:

I'm really concerned that the regulations for choosing courses from divisions are tightened, which may result in choosing courses I like more difficult. That's why I am asking so many questions. I hope you can understand.(Of course, not a problem. I think, however, that the requirements have hardly changed – they are mostly the same.)
