Several positions are available for highly motivated graduate students to pursue studies leading to the Master of Science (MS) degree in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). Full financial aid will be provided to each MS student for the duration of studies. These positions can start as early as Spring 2020.
Students will work on a collaborative research project that includes NASA Glenn Research Center, Cornell University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Auburn University. Students in this project will also have the opportunity to complete a Summer internship at Cornell, Georgia Tech, or Auburn. The research is in the field of droplet combustion at elevated pressures. The fuels of interest include hydrocarbon fuels, bio-derived fuels, and practical transportation fuels (gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel). The project will investigate, both experimentally and computationally, the droplet combustion dynamics of different liquid fuels at elevated pressures representative of practical engines. This problem is important for improving the fuel efficiency of combustion engines.
We wish to attract students with research interests in performing high-pressure combustion experiments and/or numerical simulations. Students with bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, and other closely related fields are encouraged to apply.
Candidates are encouraged to submit a complete online application for admission to Graduate Studies at PVAMU. Candidates should also email Professor Yuhao Xu at yuxu@pvamu.edu with the following materials: (1) Curriculum Vitae, (2) unofficial transcripts, and (3) a brief personal statement that highlights the candidate's research skills and interests.
