Position description
The Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) program in the Department of Civil, Construction, & Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama is seeking highly motivated students for a graduated research/teaching assistant position to conduct research in the field(s) of:
Trip and trajectory data mining and urban computing
Autonomous shared mobility system
Transportation network modeling
Complex network and interdependent networks in transportation.
Applicants with strong optimization / network science / programming skills (Matlab, Python, Java) are encouraged to apply. A master’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Industrial Engineering or relevant fields is preferred. Previous research/industry experiences with data processing, visualization, and knowledge of optimization software are desirable but not required. About Dr. Xinwu Qian
Dr. Xinwu Qian will join UA as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, & Environmental Engineering, starting Fall 2020. Prior to join UA, he worked as a postdoctoral associate in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. His research focuses on the intersection of urban computing, data analytics, and network modeling for improving the efficiency and resilience of urban transportation systems. He received his bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering at Tongji University, Shanghai, China, and his MSE and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering at Purdue University in 2014 and 2018, respectively. His research has been published in leading journals such as Transportation Research Part B & C and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems.
