Ph.D. Openings in Solid Mechanics/Multiscale Computations/Data-driven Modeling at Utah State University
Ph.D. applications are invited to join my research group in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University. The positions are fully funded with a tuition waiver, monthly stipend, and health insurance. The admitted Ph.D. students will work on multiscale computational studies of functional materials (energy storage & functional polymer) to (i) elucidate the underlying physics of materials deformation and failure, and (ii) design new materials. We are a highly computational oriented group, where multiscale computations (DFT, MD & FEA) are combined with data-driven modeling (Uncertainty Quantification & machine learning).
Admission requirements can be found at https://engineering.usu.edu/mae/students/graduate/apply. Candidates with the following conditions are highly encouraged to apply.
• Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
• TOEFL≥100, GRE Verbal/Quantitative ≥70th percentile
• Programming experience with MATLAB, C/C++ or Python
• Experience with FEA Software (ABAQUS/FENICS/MOOSE), or MD simulations (LAMMPS), or DFT (VASP), or Stochastic modeling.
While not required, a master’s degree focusing on Computations/Mechanics or related major is preferred. Interested candidates please send an email to Dr. Haoran Wang (hw209@duke.edu) with your CV and transcript.
