The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University, USA (http://www.ece.iastate.edu) has research staff, postdoc, and Ph.D. positions for research and innovation in software-defined cyberinfrastructures for 5G and beyond. The projects are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and they include a planning project for a potential large-scale wireless living lab as a part of the national Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program (https://advancedwireless.org/).
For the research staff and postdoc positions, systems training and/or experience in wireless, networks, and/or distributed systems are required. Qualifications in the following areas are strong plus:
- Knowledge of operating systems, virtualization, systems and network security
- Capability of building systems prototypes based on reference publications and/or open-source code base
- Hands-on experience with SDN, VNF, cellular network platforms such as OpenAirInterface, M-CORD, and COMAC
- Hands-on experiences in Linux system administration, OpenStack ecosystem, cluster management, virtual machines/containers, shell scripting
- Programming skills: C, C++, Java, Python, Web
For the Ph.D. positions, relevant background in computer science, computer engineering, and/or electrical engineering are required, and experience in systems building, mathematical modeling, and research will be a plus.
Iowa State University (ISU) is a major research university, and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at ISU has over 100 years of rich and distinguished history. As a 400+ acre development and having over 96 tenants employing over 2,250 people, the ISU Research Park (http://www.isupark.org/) hosts a vibrant startup community as well as R&D branches of major companies such as John Deere. In addition, many other established and start-up companies (e.g., Collins Aerospace, Emerson) are within 100 miles from ISU campus and are leaders in wireless communication and networking, AR/VR and control systems, and their applications in various domains. Being in one of the best college towns in USA which offers the convenience and energy of larger cities, students will also have a great life experience on campus in Ames, Iowa (http://www.thinkames.com; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ames,_Iowa).
