i visited Yale stats this spring. and it is a really small dept indeed. i think they are good at machine learning and stat information theory ~~~ i had lunch with professor barron and he holds strong interests for the joined field of stat and engineering.  if you like stat with more engineering stuff, that would be a nice place for you
